Philosophy is a job to knit together all these different separate understandings into a bigger story. 99.9% of what scientists do is not that, but some at some point when we have the ability to make these connections we really want to make them. Of course it can be challenging precisely because if you have people who spend their whole lives just working on one part of the story it takes a certain dispensation from universities.
