The Disappointment of Volunteers in the Spanish Republican Army
International brigade volunteers were used by the Americans for special operations in Europe, behind the lines. Some of them threw themselves into activism for the Spanish Republican cause which continued for another almost six months. On the other hand, you did have a few that suffered from the authorities - either barred from serving because of their politics or not able to get promotions.
