The Paradox of India
"India is a country of paradoxes," says CNN's Sanjay Gupta. "We are on one hand, both a deeply illiberal society, but also liberal in some ways." He adds that when people think of abstract ideas like nationalism and religion, you bring out the worst in them because their humanity ebbs away there. But many people who will say bigoted things on Twitter in real life will actually behave wonderfully well with other religions or other nationalities.
