One of Churchill's greatest fears was that Malta would fall, the besieged island fortress. The key to getting convoys through for the British to resupply Malta with arms and food basically was air power. So a number of missions were sent into the desert in standard SS fashion to destroy loads of air bases. But at the same time, they dispatched the first ever SAS mission by sea. A submarine the Triton set sail for Crete to raid the air base Heraclian.
