Do the Mixed Messages Damage the President's Credibility?

The Wall Street Journal described this troop increase as the largest deployment of American forces in Taiwan in decades. Biden has publicly said we'll defend Taiwan militarily if China invades, but his team has then walked that back to strategic ambiguity. Where does the US stand and do the mixed messages damage the president's credibility? I think part of why we are having such a problem with China right now.
