California created legislation that stopped the government from prohibiting people from having ADUs. One of the ways that house hackers and other investors have been able to make California real estate investing work is by adding ADUs to the property. "I'm actually building right now in Modesto, an ADU next to the tree house that I have," says Abasalow.
