The Fundamental Probability of Electron Scattering
In quanto mechanics, if you duce things for a short amount of time, they kind of don't have to have their usual characteristics. Electof photons are usually massless particles travelling at the speed of light. In a virtual photon doesn't have to be massless. So long as it survives for a short enough time, the amount it can have an effective mass is something that e ah depending on how short the time is.
