The energy transition began in 1709 in January when an English metal worker found that you can make better iron using coal rather than wood. Oil overtakes coal is the world's number one energy source in the 1960s and today the world uses three times as much coal last year was the highest ever. In a quarter of century it entirely changed the base of the industrial society.
