King edward the fourth died unexpectedly in 14 83. Elizabeth delayed announcing his death so that she could secure her family's political future. This may have included elizabeth even trying to act as regent for her 12 year old son, although at this point in english history it woud have been more common for the regent to be male. Edward the fifth learned of his father's death on april fourteenth 14 83 and he and his uncle left for london after saint george's day observances.
