Is There Such a Thing as Western Culture?

There are two schools of thought here, both of which i have a problem with. One is this relativistic culture that says the west isn't special and we're pretty bad. But then you do have remnants of the gung ho idea that the wests is the only form of civilization on earth. How do you straddle that issue? Well, i'm very much saying the opposite - there are advantages to societies which are more communitarian. So i guess my argument is not so much that the west is best for every one, but i do think that there are certain things that make the west very good for people like us.
