In january, a man named david bennett became the first human to ever receive a pig heart. While it was a huge accomplishment in medicine, bennet died two months later. To avoid this, researchers at n yu developed and used a more sensitive screening method that could better pick up on low levels of this pig virus before the organ is transplanted into humans.
