The social studies or science teacher often don't give enough guidance to the kids in how to make sense of their text because they're so focused on the content. The reading teacher tends to go the other way. They forget that, you know, you're not just practicing this skill. You're practicing it on something that can be a source of knowledge and that part of your job is to make sure the kids come away with that knowledge.
