In 19 65, martin luce king gave a speech which he called a remaining awake through the great revolution. This is obviously a kind of word that's being used in the african american idiom aas. It soon got turned round and it became an insult. A word that had tremendous political meaning has been watered down now. And to call some one woke means that they talk about these kind of fashionable politics, but it's really kind of superficial, and they don't mean it.
