There's a context-dependentness to the contrast effect. We only usually get that contrast effect immediately when we experience that contrast initially, and then it just goes away right away. But with gratitude, we can actually bring it back again and again. And I also think this is where gratitude comes in because many people around the world don't have enough food to eat.

To increase our chances of success (in whatever domain and using definition of success), should we focus on boosting our strengths or shoring up our weaknesses?
