The History of the RAF Glider Pilot Regiment
The misunderstanding is that they are RAF glider pilots, and that's not true. A lot of those guys flew on the invasion of Germany in 1945 - crossing of the Rhine. Up until that point, the regiment itself was an army regiment. They were trained to fly by the RAF and they were trained to soldier by the army. Once they'd qualified as pilots, they were army. The term they were given was total soldiers being able to fly and fight.
