The Power of Filler Pauses

The most profound revelation that I had in reading this book was if you go to any speaking coach, they're going to tell you like get rid of umbs and ayes or us when you speak. They're called as you refer to them with filler pauses or FPs. We use filled pauses whenever we're getting to places of greater complexity that require more cognitive processing. So for example, if I would say chartreuse instead of brain, then I would probably be more likely to or I'm in front of chartreuse because it's a less frequent, less familiar word. My neural networks are not as activated to retrieve that word and therefore it takes a little bit more time.
