Bruegada Syndrome: A Loss of Function in the SCN5A Sodium Channel Gene
When someone refers to a Bruegada pattern, what they're referring to is the actual EKG findings in the absence of symptoms. This is due to a loss of function in the SCN5A sodium channel gene. When the syndrome itself is present, it's a presence of cardiac symptoms such as lightheadedness, dizziness and presynchopy.
