In 19 94, China capped the number of hollywood rel s at ten a year. Each film was viewed and approved by chinese communist party censors. They would also only give distribution agreements on those films to theatres that had agreed to allicate a set amount of money each year to the production of chinese movies. So they essentially use the revenue from the successful hollywood movies to fuel the production of domestic chinese product as well.
