How to Classify Words in a Sentence
Some English grammarians have argued that there really shouldn't be any other categories. In the late 1700s, an English gramarian named John Horn took argued that nouns and verbs are the only fundamental parts of speech in English. Some scholars didn't include adverbs as a separate part of speech in the 1700s. But today they are almost always included as a distinct part ofspeech in English.
