Mortgage rates are at their highest since the fall of 2022 and applications to purchase and refinance homes were down 31 percent and 45 percent respectively year over year. The average 30 year conforming mortgage is approaching 7 percent. For anyone that is not interested in buying a house right now, this is really a rate story. We haven't seen them sustained around 7 percent in about 20 years.
