When you look at a work of art, i want you to tell me not only what you see, but what are you missing. This is a concept that i stole from emergency medicine. It's called the pertinent negative and it means articulating what's not there in addition to what is there. So when you arrive at a crime scene and you hear on the radio all the details, when you expected there to be blood, while there's not blood everywhere, you need to say, there isn't blood everywhere.
