Teaching Children How to Read a Diagram
Teachers often spend hours developing their ability to create a diagram, and they don't exploit it. So once put a diagram, you need to teach children how to read a diagram. There are differences in our spatial abilities - that doesn't mean one can't learn to think spatially. But children can be taught to Think Spatially by building up the idea of 'switch modes' which links written representation with visual representation.
