The Origins of Viral Life

We don't know how the very first viruses emerged on earth, no. But we have some ideas about when and where they came - over a billion years ago. No way we can have geological records of virus s is going back that far. One possibility is that viruses are descended from some very, very simple arenaraplicases. And an other possibility is that they may have evolved after or from selular life. It's tempting to think of viruses as pre dating clear life. We couldn't have them without sells because they simply can't replicate without sels.
