Our conception of race has historically been a kind of fluid conception. Just like europeans, africans would have also seen and understood some groups in relative proximity to them as different people. This notion of african solidarity and black solidarity comes later s for obvious reasons. Its in relation to folks who are attempting to assert their power and domination over another group of people that look a different way. And i think, am, that's an important consideration in terms of how we think about race, class and the interests associated with those two dynamics.
