Adam Smith: I got a lot of feedback on this post the rise and fall of peer review. He says academics although claiming to be egalitarian are extremely hierarchical. They don't like people questioning the thing that props up the hierarchy, he says. The first wave of attention was pretty uniformly positive but then it hits a certain status level where people start to dislike it in part because it is a quiet status.
