The Importance of Balance of Power in a Democracy
In a liberal democracy, power needs to be checked by a balance of power between different branches. That unfortunately was not enshrined for the state of Israel at the foundation of the state in 1948. A lot of the issues that relate to the protection of minority rights and to this balance of power have been created on the fly. In Israel, the legislature and the executive are essentially one and the same.
