Mather's Pledge Worked

Mather organized a two week trip to sequoia national park in the sierra nevada. Invited several of america's most prominent politicians, business men, publishers and railroad magnates. The outing was dubbed the mather mountain party. Mather paid for the entire trip out of his own pocket. On the final night, as the party sat around a bonfire smoking havana cigars, he made his pitch. Albright recorded mathers words in his memoir, creating the national park service.
