The Long Form or the Contraction?

In Ireland we use the long form far more often. And I suspect in America as well, definitely. You're far likely to hear Had you better not blah, blah,blah, then hadn't you better? To me, that sounds English. We just happen to use it more. It goes against the general accepted use of contractions because they make speech more informal.
