The Dome of the Rock

In the 1990s, there was a multi-year effort to refurbish it. King Hussein of Jordan sold one of his homes in London and he used the proceeds to buy 200 pounds of gold. And they actually covered the dome in 24 carat gold. It's only two microns thick, which is about 8-100-thousandths of an inch,. But still required 200 pounds ofgold to cover it. So that's the shrine of the Dome of the Rock.
