Is There a Gag Rate in American Comedy?

Comedy doesn't need to be consistent, just engaging and weird. The shows I liked least were the ones with the most jokes in. Blackadder was a huge show for me; Folty Towers 'almost not worth saying because it's so good', he says. His comic rhythms have been set by Monty Python and Blackadder.
