The Outer Space Treaty

In 1967, a treaty was formed documenting the laws of space. No country can claim ownership over any part of the space that nobody owns it. The main purpose of the outer space treaty wasn't actually to define ownership. It was to ban the use of nuclear weapons in space. There's currently a working group at the UN trying to tidy this up.
