The atheist explanation of evil goes something like this: The world is a harsh place. There's a lot of pointless evil. And there isn't a powerful loving creator. So the evil and suffering that we experience, it's just not that surprising. You might think, well, maybe that can explain evil, but there is something kind of pessimistic about this.
