Facebook and Politics Go Together Like Oil and Water
Facebook has been criticized as an incubator for fake news, and while some of the conspiracy theories may seem harmless, others are incredibly dangerous. A team of researchers led by Andrew Gess of Princeton University tracked the internet use of 3,000 Americans in the lead-up to the 2016 election. They found that Facebook was the referrer's site for untrustworthy news sources over 15% of the time. The researchers estimate that people spent an average of 64 seconds consuming a fake news article compared to only 42 seconds on verified news stories. There's other behind the scenes reasons as to why Facebook is such a misinformation machine.
