The Importance of Affirmative Action

I think it's a plausible argument to say that in 1970-1980, as you were coming out of the civil rights movement and trying to open up institutions. A state of exception from what should be the principled standard of a non-racial or trans-racial posture could be defended. I always thought affirmative action should sort of be more socioeconomic than racial because you can always think of very clear exceptions. But at the same time, there are a lot of race based programs that strike me as necessary.
