The debate here rests on what's its purpose in terms of is it good value for money, is it too expensive and is it too cumbersome. In REF 2014 politics at Sheffield came third of all politics departments in the country. That was a far more rigorous exercise than your average league table. It has been used increasingly as a mechanism of driving culture and behavior change through the university system.
