Is This a Hermeneutical Injustice?
Gail Paulhaus Jr. introduced the concept of willful hermeneutical ignorance to describe injustices that occur when dominantly situated knowers refuse to acknowledge epistemic tools from the experience of marginalized individuals. Dominantly situated people can dismiss both the possibility that there is anything to be known here and any epistemic resources that might have been developed to make sense of those marginally situated.
