I think it's a question of like, what is the ratio of that in your life compared to what what ratio is helpful or useful? If writing a book is your goal, you can only be happy in your head if the book is written. The first person still identifies as someone who is a smoker and they're trying to do something they're not. That signals a shift in identity. Once you see yourself as that kind of person, you have additional reason to reinforce that behavior.
