The Ability to Change the World
I believe that each poem that we write has it within it to change things. I hope you will never look again at an oyster, a pearl, a pearl fisher, or a tortoise in exactly the same way. It may be minor in terms of world events, right? It's not a cure for cancer, but it is a significant change. The person who wrote that poem was probably nine years of age. His teacher came up to me afterwards and said, how could you possibly give first prize to that poem? That kid can barely read or write. And by the way, she said, there is no such word as movie. M-O-V-E-Y
