The Importance of Permission in the Middle Ages

Most people lived in small villages or hamlets. Pilgrimage didn't just mean going to Jerusalem, going to the holy sites in the holy land. Local saints had performed miracles as well. So you would travel to a different village to ask for intercession and other things. They also went for trade reasons.
