The Death of Edward Wimper

The Matterhorn is the sixth highest mountain in the Alps. It was one of the last major peaks to be summited before 1865. Four climbers died when their ropes gave way while returning down from the peak. The tragedy marked the end of the so-called Golden Age of Alpinism.
