Is There a Difference Between Ampathy and Compassion?

CNN's John Sutter talks about the difference between ampathy and compassion. He says buddhists make a distinction between what's calson is called sentimental compassion, which is what i've been calling ampathy. What you should do instead is you should feel compassion, he says: "You don't feel miserable, ashamed, in pain"
