Changing the Model of Teaching and Learning to a Performance Based Model

i'm arguing that we should shift our thinking about curriculum mapping to what i call 3.0 What if we mapped out the curriculum not around input or content to be covered? We could literally lay out the tasks across a year and vertically across the grades planned backward from long-term transfer goals those that nested within disciplines and some that cut across disciplines. If we wanted to go even farther we could couple it to a competency based model which would be more radical even than age and grade level grouping at least in a rigid way because competency based is when you can demonstrate you can do something anyway.
