If as a career you take pride in the fact that you made something amazing not how well that thing does financially or critically then you're in a much better position because these people can't hurt you. Someone who is whose judgment is suspended until the the box office receipts come in is inherently much more vulnerable so that's something i've tried to take with my own work. If if that's where the bulk of my my judgment of what success is or isn't is in the product itself i'm in a much more invulnerable and strong position.
