In 482, just before Iles' revolt began in force, the patriarch of Alexandria died. Peter was a confirmed monophysite which put Xeno and Acacius in a difficult position. What they came up with was an attempt to mollify those with softer, monophysite beliefs by bringing them back into the orthodox fold. The Hanoticon reaffirmed the belief that Jesus was both ban and God while leaving out the difficult word nature altogether. But historians argue that Xeno's ciliatory attitude may have actually entrenched monophysite Beliefs.
