The Importance of a Division of Labor
division of labor would not offer any advantages for acting man. If only this third condition were present, temporary co operation between men would have certainly emerged. However, such transient alliances to cope with specific tasks which are beyond the strength of an individual, would not have brought about lasting social co oration. Society is much more than a passing alliance concluded for a definite purpose and ceasing as soon as its objective is realized. The great human society, enclosing, all men in all their activities, did not originate from such occasional alliances.
