The reboot really tapped into all of these hot button issues around race and gender that movements like gamergate had exposed and inflamed. Not everybody did it but the issue is that when bad actors and extremists hijack these conversations because they want to grind a political axe It creates a situation where just supporting or not supporting a movie is seen as a kind of activism or a statement which I just hate so much.
