Mary astor and george coffman's relationship ran its course. Mary decided that this was the last straw. She told franklin thorpe that she wanted a divorce, and this time there'd be no talking her out of it. Thorpe made it clear he would contest any divorce action his wife should file. When tempers cooled, thorpe and astor worked out a tentative agreement to split up and share custody of their daughter. The newly single astor was devoted to two things, her daughter and her career.
