Jan McCluskey was a friend of mine. She transitioned and it did not get much support. Her kids stopped talking to her. So she wrote an essay about this, just heartbreaking to read the rejection you feel. I don't know much about Mount Everest except it's covered with rubbish now - which is such a shame. And Mount Everest pokes into, and I think it's the only mountain that does, into the jet stream. It most certainly is.

In 2006, Winchester was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty the Queen. He resides in western Massachusetts. His new book is Knowing What We Know: The Transmission of Knowledge: From Ancient Wisdom to Modern Magic.
