The Effect of Leo's Religious Attitudes on the Christian Church
The second siege of constantinople was a complete disaster, and the moslems were sent packing. Once again, historians would try to glorify the attempt as an impressive attack on the byzantines. Leo's attitude was so radical that he would alienate himself from the traditional christian patriarchy of rome. This gradual schism would eventually split the christian church and give rise to the holy roman empire of europe.
