Is There a Balance Between Generality and Specificity?

In the book, i guess you get a little philosophical about generality and specificity. And what we want to do as humans to understand what's happening, we want to have a very general principle. This is a bit of a conundrum. We can choose between fewer general mechanisms that explain more instances less or many less general mechanisms that explaining fewer instances better. Where we draw the line for generality is anybody's guess.
